The Proposal
On Friday evening May 29th, 2009 we got engaged. It had been an average Friday in my mind. I had gotten home from work and was lying on the couch waiting for T.J. to get home so that we could start our weekend. Well T.J. got home and sat on the floor in front of me and as I leaned down to give him a kiss he turned around with the ring box in his hand and told me how much he loved me and asked if I would marry him. Before he could say another word I kissed him, and then pulled back and asked “Are you for real?” I just wanted to make sure :o) I finally gave him the answer “Of course I will marry you” followed by a kiss.
It was only after I said yes that I found out the planning that went into this. I had gone to visit a friend in Charlotte about a month before and T.J. took that opportunity to go and buy the ring. He’s so sneaky – he said he was going to help his dad get stuff to work on his house. A few weeks later my mom came to visit. Little did I know that while she was here, T.J. told her his plans and made sure he had the correct phone number to call my dad and ask for his permission. Well, he made the call and got permission (although according to my dad he grilled him like a ballpark frank before he said yes). When I asked T.J. when he had called, he said it was earlier that week – and he just couldn’t wait any longer to ask “The ring was burning a hole in his pocket” or rather in the sock drawer since that was its residence before my finger.
After we spent some time enjoying the fact that we were now engaged, we started making phone calls to let everyone know the good news. Eventually we got off the phone, made it out of the house and went and had a celebratory dinner as an engaged couple!
